Yvan,

Thanks for posting. You may want to carefully review your clientupdate configuration file that you pushed out (with specific reference to the patchid and linkid which you can grab from the MSFT KB article for each Rollup), and push the patch out again. If you need to undo what you've already deployed, read Part II of the article series: http://blogs.salentica.com/pgernburd/2009/10/31/removing-autoupdate-patch/

If you're still having issues, write back and we can take a further look.

Neil,

You're absolutely right, and we've seen this concern come up with several of our clients too. Hopefully we'll see some improvements/changes in the way these updates can be deployed.

After installing and restarting, when I click "Check Updates" it is still reporting as "Not Installed".

What could be the cause?

Thanks Peter, but unfortunately most organizations with 100 or so users have an IT organisation that follow Microsoft's best practices and DENY users local administrator rights. (Quite right too!).

This makes it impossible to AutoUpdate CRM for most organizations, and really only works in small companies where users are much more likely to have local admin rights.

Thanks alot for your comments Corbett, and the link to the related article. Glad you enjoyed the read.

I did notice the inconsistency as well - and have updated the post to benefit others. Thanks for the tip!

Your article is good, I like the screenshots. There does seem to be an inconsistency. In your example, you set the LinkId to "162439&clcid=0×40" which implies your CRM clients are going to download the patch from the Internet. Since that is the case, do you really need to extract the patch to the CRM server? I thought you only do that when your clients are set to download the patch from an alternate (non-default) location. This is a good related article: http://blogs.msdn.com/crm/archive/2008/05/08/crm-client-autoupdate.aspx
